It just won't die...
Responding to an urgent call from Superintendent Chapman of the Flying Squad, MI6s team of enhanced individuals have rushed to Sidney Square Gardens where they have encountered and engaged a horrifying creature straight out of a nightmare. MI6s team consists of Alfie Baldrick, the one man rifle section; Mimi Dubois, maƮtresse of skills; Madeline Forsyth, the living shadow; and Sven Hyse, the Norwegian shapeshifter.
London, England, September 1949
The three Baldricks that were thrown by the horror suddenly realise that the acidic slime exuded by the creatures tentacles is continuing to burn through their clothing, and in some cases their flesh. The bloodshot eye of the horror turns to stare straight through me, I don't mind admitting that I quaked but I managed to hold my nerve. Davy, Eddide, and Georgie all cast off their jackets in an attempt to rid themselves of the acid slime and Madeline remains half concealed by shadow as she summons another shadow to attack the horror while the shadows that she has already summoned continue to drain the strength of the creature.
The nightmare slaps at itself with its tentacles trying to dissipate the animated darkness that are crawling all over it, it manages to destroy four of them but the fifth one remains and that is all it takes as the horror collapses unconscious to the ground. Charlie and Davy step forwards and cover the horror with their guns, as unseen by anyone a dwarf circus clown steps out from behind a tree and raises a rifle to his shoulder. Seeing that the creature is no longer moving, Sven steps back into the shadow of the tree and continues to transform into his full size self. The other two Baldricks also step up and raise their guns to cover the unmoving horror. At that moment the pain overcomes me once again and I scream out loud before collapsing in agony.
Madeline dismisses her last remaining shadow, with a very troubled brow as the animated shadow clings to this reality with a strong will. Leaving the others to cover the now dead horror Charlie rushes over to my side to check on me, he always was my favourite, but when he checks me he can find no physical injuries on my person. Freddie grabs the rifles from the back of the car and runs back towards the scene. Back at Hanslope Park Jonny discovers that Major Sawdon is not in his office, and as he is Corporal Jonny Baldrick he just stands outside the empty office waiting for him to return.
Madeline runs over to the fallen policemen to check on them but finds that they are both dead. Eddie spots one of the horror's tentacles twitch and then he Davy and Georgie all shout;
The bloody thing isn't dead! It's moving!Sven, now fully back into his form, steps out from behind the tree with his rifle at his shoulder, he stares down his telescopic sight and also sees them move minutely and so he starts to aim. Staring at the dead horror starting to move again, Georgie's mind freezes in fear and he is rooted to the spot in panic. Sven squeezes the trigger and a big hole blasts open in what passes as a head for the horror. I manage to master my pain for a second and grab Charlie by the front of his shirt, he looks down at me and says;
Are you all right Ma'am?I stare through the pain into his face, and through gritted teeth manage to utter;
Get Sawdon immediately!At Hanslope Park, Jonny leaves Sawdon's office and goes in search of the Major. The horror starts to make an ear splitting mewling sound, that starts low and rises rapidly, but it is then cut short as three loud shots ring out as Sven rapidly pulls the trigger of his rifle. Two of the bullets hit the body of the horror and large chunks of flesh are blasted from its form. The horrors tentacles flop once more unmoving to the ground. Sven walks forwards, slinging his rifle and pulling out his sharp Norwegian axes.
Madeline, who has run back towards the creature at the shout, starts to lower the temperature in the area beneath a couple of the tentacles. Freddie throws one of the rifles to Charlie and they both aim at the once more unmoving horror. Sven hacks one of his axes into one of the horror's tentacles, he cuts half way through and as he rips his axe free he realises that it is starting to fizz with acidic damage. He drops the axe to the ground and opens his veterinary bag, grabbing a bottle of surgical spirit he pours it all over the wounded appendage. Sven reaches for his box of matches and as he does so a different tentacle lashes out and slaps at him, but the nimble Norweigen sidesteps the blow and dances out of reach.
Charlie and Freddie fire simultaneously and more chunks of flesh explode from the body of the beast, but the tentacles continue to move even though it is readily apparent now that the body is dead. Yet again the tremendous pain washes over me and I fall to my knees screaming as Madeline summons a shadow and directs it to attack one of the tentacles. The tentacles start to drag its own dead body towards the sound of my screaming and as it does so Two of its tentacles lash out at Charlie and Freddie. Charlie manages to dodge the attack but Freddie is caught up in its grasp.
Madeline animates another shadow from the natural shadows that are being cast by the creature and directs them to attack the tentacles. Freddies coat starts to burn in the acid of the tentacle that holds him in it's grip and the tentacle that missed Charlie lashes out at me and grasps me in its tight grip. Sven fires again and the bullet from his rifle severs one of the tentacles from the body, Charlie follows his lead, but his standard issue British military rifle is not as powerful as his Norwegian counterparts, and so his bullet only partially severs the tentacle that he aimed at. In the horror's grasp I flex my muscles, enhanced by my newly borrowed strength, and successfully break free of its hold. But the act of being held by the tentacle of a clearly dead creature reaches direct into my primal psyche and I freeze in fear at the nightmare that is playing out in front of me.
Madeline continues to animate shadows around the horror and they continue to attack the tentacles directly. The tentacle that I shrugged off lashes out at me and grasps my catatonic form, the acidic juices from its slime starts to eat through my armour, the same happens to Freddie and he grunts in pain. The tentacles being attacked by Madeline's shadows flop unmoving to the ground and Sven fire again and blows off the tentacle that is holding me.
Everything goes quiet for a moment, even my screams of pain are silenced by my catatonic state. Madeline inspects the horror and can see that the tentacles are regrowing from the back of the horror and so she directs her shadows to continually suck the life out of the area to slow them down. Madeline gets Baldrick to contact both Sawdon and Chapman, Jonny and Isy do so and inform them that the incident is under control but that we need the area cordoned off and a clean up team.
A couple of minutes pass and I snap out of my fear and instantly start to scream once more, Sven opens his veterinary bag and pulls out a vial of morphine. He injects me and I slip into unconsciousness. Police cars start to show up and Madeline tells the Baldricks to start disappearing before she takes control of the scene until four members of the Flying Squad arrive and take over from her, setting up a wide cordon. Jonny finally finds Major Sawdon and lets him know what has happened, Sawdon tells Baldrick to contact the Smartly Dressed man for assistance and so Isy rings him. The Smartly dressed man tells Isy that he will send a Bio Hazard truck to the scene. Isy relays the information to all of the Baldricks and Charlie turns to Madeline and says;
The Smartly Dressed Man is sending a fire truck Ma'am!
Madeline looks back at him in confusion. The confusion fades when the Bio Hazard team turn up, and she just casts a baleful look at the nearest Baldrick to her. One of the Flying Squad officers, who had been talking to a police constable on the cordon walks back towards Madeline shouting;
They have found a house further down the Street with what looks like acid damage on the doorframe!
Madeline looks at the remaining standing members of the team and nods in the direction indicated.
