The horror of Sidney Square Gardens...

After recovering from the incident at the Blind Beggar public house and interrogated the non-enhanced members of Billy Hill’s gang, MI6s team of special individuals have headed back to London to continue their search for the elusive Doctor Jackal. MI6s team consists of Alfie Baldrick, the one man rifle section; Mimi Dubois, maîtresse of skills; Madeline Forsyth, the living shadow; and Sven Hyse, the Norwegian shapeshifter.

London, England, September 1949

As soon as Isy has put down the telephone from Superintendent Chapman he mentally contacts Alfie and Charlie and lets them know Chapman's request. Charlie looks to myself and Madeline, who had joined us on our daily search, and relays the information. I tell him to get us there as quick as he can and he takes me at my word and floors the accelerator. Simultaneously Alfie turns to Sven, they had both popped up to the roof of Canning Place Mews for a smoke, and informed him of what was happening. Sven instantly starts to transform his physical form into that of a pigeon.

As we approach the junction of Ashfield Street and Sidney Street Madeline tells Charlie to stop the car while I push out with my enhanced senses, I get a single response and shout to the others;

There's one enhanced at the south end of the gardens!

As Madeline and Charlie climb out of the car they can hear the sound of a police car's bells and the sounds of panic and screaming, they rush to the rear of the car and both of them grab a tranquilizer rifle. Madeline then transforms into a shadow and slips in the direction of the chaos, Charlie pauses for a moment and then suddenly there are six more Corporal Baldricks. The Baldricks split into three teams and rush towards the gardens. A pair of Baldricks head right down Sidney Street, while two more head down the opposite side of Sidney Square Gardens and Charlie leads the final Baldricks through the gate and into the gardens.

Madeline slides under the fence and then up the closest tree to get a better view of the gardens, as she clears the upper branches her eyes fall upon a creature from out of a nightmare. She quickly shakes off the primordial fear that starts to grip at her heart, but three of the Baldricks are frozen in their tracks by the horrifying sight that greets them in the gardens. The horror in the gardens reaches out with one of the four slimy tentacles that rise from its back and entangles one of the terrified members of the public. The man's scream rips through the air before he falls limp and silent in the nightmare creatures grip. Madeline solidifies and raises the tranquilizer rifle to her shoulder taking aim at the creatures oversized eye. The four Baldricks unaffected by the terrifying visage of the horror continue to rush forwards, fanning out to get clear shots. Meanwhile, still sat in the backseat of the car, I push deeper with my power into the enhanced creatures mind and discover that it's strongest power is that it has tentacles. That surprises me, as I had guessed that we would be dealing with Teddy Machin or at worst Mr Hades.

The nightmare horror takes a couple of halting steps forwards and lashes out with a pair of tentacles, grabbing another petrified bystander. The lady's scream is cut short when the tentacles twitch and tighten. Seeing that the creature is randomly killing members of the public, Corporal Freddie Baldrick decides that it is time to take the initiative and leaps the fence surrounding the garden drawing his Beretta in a fluid motion. With one of the Baldricks having made the decision, the other three follow suit and Georgie pulls out his Walther PPK as Davy and Eddie sprint along the right hand side of the park to get in range. As Freddie clears the bushes he spots two unmoving policemen laying near the southern entrance to the gardens.

Madeline exhales slowly and gently squeezes the trigger on the tranquilizer rifle. The dart flies true and strikes in the centre of the hideous outsized eye of the nightmare creature, but she is frustrated to see that the dart does not have the power to pierce the horrors enhanced armour. Confused by what I have discovered with my attempts to push the enhanced, I climb out of the car and rush towards the scene to see what we are facing. I lock my eyes on the nightmarish horror and my brain is frozen in panic as the primal fight or flight reaction wars within my brain.

The horror throws one of the bodies held in its tentacles at Freddie and the body lands with a sickening thud a few feet to his right, when it lands it remains motionless. The creature reaches out with a pair of tentacles and grasps a man cowering beside a tree, it lifts the bystander up into the air and rips him in two showering the area in blood. Another of the horrors tentacles grabs a woman away from her baby, crying in its pram, and with a constriction of its muscles breaks her back. Freddie fires three shots, all of them hitting, but is dismayed to see them all bounce from the creatures rubbery flesh. As the rest of the team continue to rush forwards, I manage to push my fear to the back of my mind and push out with my senses and make contact with the horror discovering that it is also imbued with an enhanced strength.

The horror turns its weeping, bloodshot eye towards Georgie and the Baldrick fires three times at it. All three shots ricochet from the creatures flesh but Georgie is encouraged to see a splash of ichor from one of the bullets. Freddie fires again and hits twice, but again the horror does not even seem to notice the shots. Davy and Eddie leap the fence into the gardens and rush towards the nightmare, attempting to overwhelm it with numbers. And Charlie manages to master his fear and sprints forwards once more. Above the chaos, a pigeon formed Sven flies over the gardens and sees all unfold.

Madeline gets closer and uses her power to animate the horror's shadow. The nightmare creature launches the broken backed mother at Georgie and her limp form slams into him, but it is only a glancing blow and he retains his feet. Four of the Baldricks open fire at the horror with their guns and the sound of rapid gunfire echoes back off of the surrounding buildings, but there is no effect on the creature itself. I push the creature again and borrow its enhanced strength, as soon as I do my body is wracked by chronic pain and I almost black out at the shock of it. Sven lands just inside the gardens and starts transforming from his pigeon form.

The bloodshot eyes of the nightmarish horror turn on Davy and Eddie and a pair of tentacles lash out at them. Both of them received injuries from the attack, in spite of their enhanced armour, and they are both lifted into the air. The creature drops the bisected male bystander and the now empty tentacles whip out at Georgie and he is also grappled and lifted into the air. Madeline animates Eddie's shadow, and directs the creatures already animated shadow to attack the horror. Eddie and Georgie both fire from their grappled positions, but all of their shots fail to penetrate the creatures hide. Davy is unable to fire as his arms are pinned, and Freddie fires three shots into the horror and believes that one of the shots injures the nightmare. I manage to master the pain coursing through my body and stumble forwards towards the fight.

Charlie fires the tranquilizer rifle at the horror, but as with Madeline's shot, the dart is unable to penetrate the horror's thick skin. Eddie fires again, but again the bullets bounce off of the horror's flesh. Knowing that he needs a bigger gun, Freddie sprints back towards the car and his favoured rifle. Georgie draws his knife and prepares to slash at the tentacle holding him. The three held Baldricks grit their teeth in pain as the secretions from the horrors blubbery tentacles start to burn through their armour like powerful acid. Then fortunately, the horror throws all three of them away from it, scattering them as easily as a farmer scatters seed. Madeline draws upon her power and summons another shadow to attack the horror, and they shadows begin to drain the nightmare creatures energy.
