Run!...

In pursuit of their estranged former teammate Doctor Jackal, the EIS team of enhanced individuals have followed a trail of clues to the mysterious Montauk Institute on Long Island. Having discovered a hidden facility containing enhanced buried deep beneath the Institute Madeline and Mimi attempted to infiltrate the base but were captured. Now Alfie and Sven are attempting a daring rescue. The EIS team consists of Alfie Baldrick, the one man rifle section; Mimi Dubois, maîtresse of skills; Madeline Forsyth, the living shadow; and Sven Hyse, the Norwegian shapeshifter.

Long Island, New York, United States of America, October 1949

Ignoring the threat in Sven's words, Professor Oppenheimer continues his questioning undeterred:
Who are you and where are you from? These alarms were triggered automatically because an anomaly was detected, and based on what I can see there is a very good chance that you have triggered them as one of you is clearly enhanced.
Sven raises his pistol and points it at Professor Oppenheimer for a brief moment before he slowly shifts his aim to one of the other scientists while not breaking eye contact with Oppenheimer:
Professor, can you shut down this alarm and take me to my compatriots?
The Professor acknowledges the implied threat from Sven:
If you are referring to the pair of enhanced who were recently captured, then they will be within the holding cells beyond that door. But as that is the direction where the anomaly has headed I would suggest that it is advisable to avoid.
Sven, barely managing to contain the urge to shoot Oppenheimer in the leg, asks if the Institute have seen the anomaly before and when the Professor nods Sven asks how they contained it. Professor Oppenheimer merely responds:
We didn't!
Sven shakes his head:
Then open the damn door and let us rescue our colleagues.
Professor Oppenheimer looks towards the door and with nothing but a blink of his eyes the heavy metal slab of a door clicks open. Sven looks at Oppenheimer and says:
It seems like you might be enhanced as well!
Oppenheimer just smiles. But the attention of Sven and the Baldricks is wrenched to the cell block corridor when they hear a scream. But no sooner has the scream started it abruptly ends, Alfie urgently seeks within his mind to see if Mimi is in contact and is somewhat relieved when she responds:
No I'm not there, I'm having tea at the Ritz.
Leaving three of the Baldricks to guard the scientists, and one to make sure that the door is not closed behind them, Sven and the remaining Baldricks head into the cell block looking for Madeline and Mimi. While he is being cover by the Baldricks Sven looks through the first door and can see what looks like a small medical facility of some kind, he ignores it and moves onward to the next door. When he looks through the small slot in the door all he can see is a large amount of blood cast across the single bed and the walls, it is obvious that somebody died a violent death in here and as the blood is still wet it happened very recently. He steps across the corridor and looks into the window of the opposite door but can see nothing but an impenetrable darkness.

Having heard the screams from two of the other cells Madeline waits behind her screen of utter darkness ready to attack whoever it is that is making the prisoners yell out in panic and pain. The metal shutter across the six inch window in the cell door opens and Madeline can see the face of an American soldier looking in. She instantly spears the cell door with a full power ice blast smashing the door off of it's hinges and into the face of the guard. The soldier staggers backwards a couple of steps but the impact does not seem to have hurt him, he then drops into a very familiar fighting stance. Madeline holds back her next attack and says:
Sven?
Realising that the teammates were about to fight each other, Madeline drops the darkness and exits the cell to join Sven and the Baldricks. She turns to the nearest Baldrick and asks him if they have found her equipment, Baldrick shakes his head but directs her to the scientists and so Madeline rushes off to them to get herself re-armed.

Sven spots that the green lights above each of the cell doors are slowly turning red one by one. He rushes to the next cell along and when he looks through he can see Mimi sat on the edge of the small bed. He turns to Baldrick and shouts:
Get the bloody code for the cell doors.
Outside with the scientists another Baldrick turns his gun on the scientists and tell them that he needs the code for the cell doors and that they have five seconds to comply. Professor Oppenheimer calmly tells him that the code is 5894. Back in the cell block corridor one of the Baldricks leans forwards and punches the code in and opens the door to Mimi's cell.

As the door to my cell opens I see an arm forcing its way through the wall of my cell, it is monstrous and I am gripped by panic as my mind flashes back to the fight with the horror in the streets of London. I run, dodging the arm that has now become the torso of a terrifying creature, and fall almost catatonic into the arms of my hero Alfie. Behind me the anomaly finally emerges from the wall and it's quartered head opens as it howls. Sven slams the cell door shut and turns to the team:
RUN!
By the time that the team make it to the main area outside of the cell block Madeline has recovered her equipment and is mostly dressed and sporting her silenced pistol. Sven shouts to everyone that we are leaving but Professor Oppenheimer and the two scientists refuse to leave. Sven shouts at Oppenheimer that they having been fabricating enhanced and that the anomaly must be one that has gone wrong and that it will get Oppenheimer. But the Professor shouts back:
We have not fabricated any enhanced, all those here have come to us from outside.
I push out with my senses and realise that not only are all of the enhanced within the cell block dead, I can not sense the anomaly. In fact the only other enhanced that I can sense is Professor Oppenheimer himself. I shout at Oppenheimer:
Did Doctor Jackal give you your powers with his brass sphere?
Oppenheimer looks at me as he and the two scientists are backing away deeper into the facility:
Yes. We had a very interesting discussion!
One of the Baldricks shouts and points at the cell block door and again the creatures hand can be seen pushing through. Sven gestures towards the 'air-lock' and we head in that direction with two Baldricks carrying me between them. As we round the corner into the 'air-lock' Sven sees the creature stand to its full height and howl before he slams the door shut. Alfie punches in the code on the other door and breathes a sigh of relief when it opens. We bundle into the elevator and Baldrick de-duplicates until there are only three of him left.

The doors open on the ground floor and the team are surprised that everything is quiet. As they exit the elevator Alfie hears the rumble of a truck in the distance and urges the team to move swiftly. They rush out of the front doors and head in the opposite direction to the approaching truck headlights. They burst through a group of scientists standing around confused and smoking and as they make it to the tree line Madeline throws up a screen of darkness behind them so that the lights of the truck doesn't hit them as it pulls up outside the transmitter building. As soldiers jump down from the back of the truck and head for the front doors of the building the team move as fast as they can towards their exfiltration spot.

The team makes it back to their car but decide against driving back past the base and instead Sven takes to the air as a bird and collects the sailing boat. Sixty minutes later the team are scrambling into the boat from the sea and Sven sets them in the direction of the open sea. As the boat is heading across the broad stretch of the Block Island Sound Sven turns to Madeline and asks her about the ice blast, Madeline responds:
I’d rather we not talk about it. The British Secret Service need not know.
Sven just nods and then asks where they are heading. By this time I was coming back up from below decks having put on some clothes and responded:
We go to ground. We have lost all leads on Henry, and we will have been disavowed.
Two nights later we head into a bar in Falmouth, with Madeline and Sven discussing what to do with me as I am constantly lying. But their conversation is interrupted by Alfie who points to the television the is on behind the bar, it is the news and they are showing a picture of Albert Einstein. Baldrick grabs a newspaper and sits down at a table reading the sports pages, but Sven spots the headline on the front page reporting that Albert Einstein is missing and that the authorities have no idea of his whereabouts. The physicist disappeared two days ago on the Wednesday when he was seen leaving his office. The alarm was raised when he failed to report to work on the Thursday morning.

Sven realises that the day that Einstein went missing was the same day that they had intercepted Ambassador Philby rushing to the airport. Madeline suggests that it might be time to contact Sawdon, and the others agree with her. And so she puts a call through her back channels to the department and gets to speak to Sawdon himself. Madeline fills Sawdon in on the details, but as soon as she mentions enhanced Sawdon shuts her down and tells her that the team must contact Mr Shannon. Madeline starts to ask why and again Sawdon cuts her off:
Philby has defected to Russia and we believe that he has kidnapped Albert Einstein!
